D-401Switching
Moving from another takeoff program.
Changing software during bid season has a real cost. Here's what carries over, what doesn't, and how to switch without missing a bid date.
What carries over
- Your plan sets. DimSum opens the same PDFs and scans.
- How you think. Items with parts, parts driven by formulas, reports built from both.
- Your hands. Click to place, right-click menus, drag to pan, and keyboard shortcuts for the tools you use most.
- Your formulas. Plain arithmetic with named values, so you can rebuild your most-used items from what you know.
- Your price lists. Save them from your spreadsheet as CSV and import them as material libraries.
What doesn't
DimSum doesn't open other programs' job files, and their templates don't import. We'd rather tell you that now than after you've bought it.
Most estimators finish open bids in the old program and start new ones in DimSum, with the DimSum Defaults library covering common items.
A switching plan that fits one renewal cycle.
Find your renewal date
Most subscriptions renew on your sign-up anniversary.
Start the trial early
About three weeks before renewal, so you never pay for two.
Rebuild your top ten
Start from DimSum Defaults and rebuild the items you use on every job in the Tool Designer.
Run one bid in both
Take off a real job in both and compare line by line.
Decide before renewal
If the numbers match and DimSum is faster for you, let the old one lapse.
Things you may not have had before.
Plan markup in the same program
Dimension Lines, clouds, highlights, notes and stamps on the takeoff sheets, so you don't need a second PDF program.
Every run, labelled
Label each run of a wall with its own length, so the wrong one is easy to spot.
Every feature on every seat
No higher edition to buy for the good tools.
We'll build your first tools with you.
Beta members get a setup call. Bring a PDF from a real job and we'll build your first wall and tools together, on your plans, in your units.
